When We Gather will be performed live for the first time at the National Gallery of Art on April 30th, 2022, as part of the programming around the groundbreaking Afro-Atlantic Histories exhibition.

The piece will be performed twice, at 1 pm and 3 pm, beginning at the East Garden Court of the museum. Admission is free and open to the public.

Indiana University Cinema presents When We Gather and When We Gather: Together. Following the screening, Anke Birkenmaier, IU Professor of Spanish and Portuguese, will lead a virtual discussion with artist María Magdelena Campos-Pons.

Join interdisciplinary artist and educator María Magdalena Campos-Pons for a conversation about her work and latest projects, including When We Gather as part of Montalvo Arts Center’s Scratch Space program.

Our Lead Creative, María Magdalena Campos-Pons, is one of the keynote speakers at the Fifth Annual Symposium of Latin American Art, organized by the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University; The Graduate Center, CUNY; and Columbia University, with the support of the Institute for Studies on Latin American Art (ISLAA) and the John Rewald Endowment at The Graduate Center, CUNY.

The NatiVisions Film Festival will be presenting a special screening of the black box version of When We Gather and the behind-the-scenes special, When We Gather: Together in celebration of Women’s History Month. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with artist Jana Harper, and producers Gabi Madsen and Andrea Chung.

The Los Angeles Women's International Film festival (#LAWOMESFEST) has selected the broadcast version of When We Gather as part of their short documentary program. The festival, entering its 17th edition this year, is produced by Alliance of Women Filmmakers, a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and equality of women in entertainment.

The McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University will be screening the black box version of When We Gather as part of their Operation: Cura Personalis initiative. The screening will be followed by a conversation with Executive Producer, Wendi Norris (MBA ‘96), artist, María Magdalena Campos-Pons, and producer, Virginia Shore.

In honor of Black History Month and as part of their Virtual Wednesday’s programming, the de Young Museum will host a special conversation and Q+A session with lead artist, María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Executive Producer and gallerist, Wendi Norris, and the de Young’s inaugural curator of African art, Natasha Becker.

To mark the end of the free viewing period of When We Gather and When We Gather: Together on our website, we are hosting a live closing reception that features a screening of the film and a Q&A with artists, María Magdalena Campos-Pons and Jana Harper, Executive Producer, Wendi Norris, and Producer, Gabi Madsen, moderated by Dr. Nikki A. Greene, host and writer of When We Gather: Together.
